Chopin’s many piano miniatures include dances, with the most loved and well-known being his Waltzes, Mazurkas and Polonaises. In this course Bang Hean will discuss the characteristics of these dances and how Chopin made them his own, elevating these folk or court dances into a sophisticated and intricate art form. There will be discussions on the similarities and differences between these dance forms, as well as insights into the interpretation of a selection of Chopin’s more popular Waltzes, Mazurkas and Polonaises.
Each week deals with one particular dance – week 1 & 2 Waltzes, week 3 & 4 Mazurkas and week 5 & 6 Polonaises.
