Description
Dr László Norbert Nemes is currently the most sought-after expert of Kodály-inspired musical training for professional musicians and music educators at international level. In recognition of his artistic activities he received the Bartók-Pásztory Award in 2005. In March 2017 he was decorated with the Golden Cross of the Hungarian Cross of Merit.
This course introduces participants to the beginning stages of systematic musical skill development based on singing and the use of the relative sol-fa system. Areas of training include: sight-singing, part-singing, memorisation, keyboard skills, study of harmony and form.
Instructor
At the beginning of his career, his artistic activities were connected to the Hungarian Radio Children’s Choir, one of the most illustrious ensembles of Hungarian musical life, a regular guest on many concert stages around the world.
Besides his activities with Nationale Jeugdkoren in Holland he is artistic director of the New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir, currently the artist-in-residence choral ensemble of the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. He was the co-founder of the National Youth Choir of Hungary in 2018.
In addition to his artistic work, László Nemes has a significant university teaching career. He was director of the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music for fifteen years. Currently he teaches choral conducting and musicianship at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag. He continues to teach masterclasses at the Kodály Institute in Hungary.
He has conducted, taught, held workshops, master classes and seminars all across the Europe and overseas including in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cape Verde, the People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Georgia, Israel, Japan, the Korean Republic, Malaysia, The Philippines, Serbia, Republic of China/Taiwan, Turkey, Singapore and the United States of America several times. He is guest professor and academic consultant at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, patron of education at the National Youth Choir of Scotland and patron of the British Kodály Academy. For over ten years he was vice president of the International Kodály Society.
Outline
Day 1: General introduction to musical training based on singing and the use of the relative sol-fa system through the study of folk-song repertory and musical games.
Day 2: Sight-singing with sol-fa and other musical exercises for the development of general musical skills including polyphony and coordination.
Day 3: Study of music theory through singing and solmisation.

Yes, they will be made available for participants until 6 months after the completion of each course.
E-certificates will be issued on course completion to Active Participants.
Active Participants will be involved in class participation: interacting with course instructors, receiving feedback on class assignments/submissions, and they will have playing opportunities in class etc. Observers will be observing these segments of the class.
Active Participants will receive an E-certificate of participation, and Observers will receive a certificate of attendance.

Yes, simply get your friends together and send us an email to request for a second round of the course! If we receive sufficient signups we will repeat the course.
We do not conduct make-up classes. Learners who miss a session can catch up on the class content by watching the session recording thereafter. If there are any class assignments, learners are to contact the instructor directly.
We at the Academy do our utmost to make courses proceed as planned. However, there are times when unforeseen circumstances force a class to be cancelled. When this happens, we are committed to refunding the total amount, in an efficient manner, including any costs of using third-party payment gateways.
Should a participant need to cancel, we will make efforts to accommodate refunds, though costs of using third-party payment gateways will be borne by the participant.
Late cancellations may not be able to be refunded, as they will have been factored into the confirmation of running the course. We will provide a full refund for cancellations up to 2 weeks before the start of a course, following this a 50% refund with up to 1 week of notice. Notifications of fewer than 7 days will most likely not be eligible for a refund. We thank you for your understanding.
