Music means movement

In this experiential approach, children will discover music not just through sound, but through a variety of senses. Using strategies from the Dalcroze Method, these sessions will be highly interactive, engaging students with their body movements.

Music making as family

Music is a great bonding activity, and these sessions will allow the children’s whole family to be involved. They will be guided on how to make music with everyday items, exploring different timbres and being creative with sounds.

Instrumental masterclasses

These sessions are optional for participants, who will perform and receive instruction from our instrumental teachers in the presence of a virtual audience. There will be masterclasses for piano, strings and voice.

Music as storytelling

The magic of music allows us to tell stories, craft imaginations, and build on a child’s creative spirit. In these sessions, young minds will interact with our facilitators, allowing children to create stories of their own, and see how the music changes with every twist and turn. Older children will be brought on a journey through time and space – exploring various periods of music, composers, genres and stories in music.

Games of Sound

It’s playtime for children! Using interactive online games, puzzles, listening and writing, children get to explore rhythms, notes and the different sounds of instruments around the world!

Singing is Joy

Singing is the best way to begin a child’s musical journey, and these sessions will adapt Kodály teaching ideas to help children learn solfege singing and rhythm reading.

Celebration of Youth

The Academy brings to you a conversation of how far young people can go, and what we can do to provide an environment for them to thrive. We talk to Chloe Chua, the Singaporean violin prodigy and Junior category first prize winner of the Menuhin Competition, who shares with us her musical adventures and what it takes to reach the highest levels as a young musician. And then we bring in Kevin Field, Principal of Bentley Music Academy in Malaysia on keeping young people engaged, the role of parents, and the art of teaching.

Instrumental Workouts

Participants will be guided through a series of fun, instrument-specific exercises to aid in their technical development. There will be concurrent sessions for piano, strings and voice.

Showcase Concert

The festival will culminate in this finale event, in which participants will submit videos of themselves playing a piece of music and telling the audience something interesting about the music they have chosen. They will also be encouraged to share their learning experiences during the festival.
